What
is a CT study? (Computerized Axial Tomography)
16 slice technology
Computerized tomography (sometimes called CAT scan)
uses special x-ray equipment to collect image data from
every angle around the body. A computer reconstructs
the data to show a cross-sectional image of body tissue
and organs.
CT imaging is better than conventional x-ray because
CT does not superimpose anatomical parts. The better
clarity and contrast CT provides is useful in demonstrating
pathology for an accurate diagnosis.
Some CT studies will require you to drink a flavored
liquid before your exam and receive an injection of contrast
material. Contrast helps the radiologist visualize certain
organs within your body.
You will lie on a padded table with your arms over your
head for most of the 10 to 15 minute study. The table
moves slowly through the gantry during the scan. You
may experience a warm sensation when the contrast is
injected. This is normal. The technologist can see and
hear you at all times. You will hear low, whirring sounds
of a motor spinning the x-ray tube around you.
Our CT allows for
Better resolution/detail
Retro reconstruction
Multiplanar reconstruction
Faster scanning
Shorter breath holds for the patient
Less IV contrast needed
AW workstation for 3D reconstruction
Patient report options include: Internet

Preparation
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing, avoiding
zippers, or snaps (on bulleted items, a period should
not be placed at the end of the item).
You may be asked to remove hairpins, jewelry, eyeglasses,
hearing aids, and any removable dental work.
You also may be asked to refrain
from eating or drinking before the exam.
